Homelessness and food instability is an unfortunate fact of life for so many families and children in the Greater Boston region. Out of the roughly 15,000 people who experience homelessness on a daily basis in Massachusetts, 60% of those individuals are children. While these are stressors during the entire year, they are especially stressful during the holiday season. While a basket of gifts and meals cannot alleviate all of the stresses of homelessness and food instability, the caring and compassionate giving of holiday joy can bring warmth and light to those most in need during a special time of year.
The mission of Sweaters & Sustenance: Boston is to extend the spirit of joy and giving to Greater Boston’s most vulnerable men, women, and youth through fundraising, volunteerism, and the creation and cheerful delivery of holiday meals and gifts.
In the past, we have worked with teachers and school leaders to bring warmth and joy to their students most in need. This year, Sweaters & Sustenance will bring healthy meals and requested winter garments to homeless men, women, and children across the city of Boston.
